Tree mortality is one of the most important effects of forest fires, influencing important ecosystem services such as forest productivity, wildlife habitat and carbon sequestration.

USGS Western Ecological Research Center scientist Phil van Mantgem will speak about his research on tree mortality in the U.S. West in this free webinar, hosted by the California Fire Science Consortium.

In this webinar, participants will learn about the latest research on the mechanisms of fire-caused tree mortality, and how it varies across tree species, sizes and geographic ranges. Also discussed will be the larger-scale consequences of fire-caused tree mortality and how these patterns may be changing.
