On October 22-25, USGS Western Ecological Research Center scientist Nate Stephenson will attend a conference in Lima, Peru, as an invited speaker on "Treinta años de monitoreo de bosques en la Sierra Nevada de California" ("Thirty years of forest monitoring in California's Sierra Nevada"). 

The conference -- attended by scientists and representatives from six Andean countries and organized by the multinational Comunidad Andina and Consortium for the Sustainable Development of the Andean Ecoregion -- is aimed at finalizing a unified approach for forest monitoring across the Andes. 

Stephenson has been asked to speak about knowledge and experience gained from 30 years of forest monitoring in his long-term plot network in the Sierra Nevada, particularly regarding detection and interpretation of forest changes driven by climatic and other environmental changes.
