Scientific name: Petrosaurus mearnsi

Common name: Banded Rock Lizard

Size: 2.5-3.5 in (6.2-8.7 cm)

Distinguishing characters: An extremely flat bodied lizard with an olive, brown or grey dorsum and white or bluish spots on dorsum; single black collar, banded tail; granular scales on body with keeled tail and limb scales.

Juveniles: Similar to adults.

Dimorphism: Male has more pronounced throat pattern and brighter blue coloring; enlarged postanal scales.

Similar species: Crotaphytus bicinctores, Crotaphytus vestigium: Granular scales on tail, two dark collars; body shape not flattened.

Additional notes: Uncommon west of desert slope. Associated with boulder hillsides.
