Scientific name: Phyllodactylus xanti

Common name: Leaf-Toed Gecko

Size: 1-2.5 in (2.5-6.2 cm)

Distinguishing characters: A gecko with vertical pupils, immovable eyelids; leaf-like toe pads; dorsal granular scales interspersed with tubercles; brownish, grey or pinkish dorsum with a light venter; very fragile tail; often squeaks when handled.

Juveniles: Similar to adults.

Dimorphism: Male has preanal pores.

Similar Species: Xantusia henshawi: Has large dark spots and no enlarged toe pads; lacks granular scales on dorsum.

Additional notes: Tail readily lost, be very careful handling this species.
