Brian B. Hatfield
Brian B. Hatfield received his B.A. degree in biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz and M.S. degree in biology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Brian's focus is on sea otters, working under Jim Estes of the Santa Cruz Field Station. He coordinates the biannual rangewide sea otter surveys, manages the sea otter mortality data base, participates in the salvage network, and periodically surveys the small sea otter colony at San Nicolas Island. In recent years he has spent considerable time helping on sea otter projects in Alaska and Washington State, primarily by capturing otters under water using oxygen rebreathers and propulsion vehicles. Brian also periodically monitors the northern elephant seal colony at Piedras Blancas. |
